Nia and Movement

My Nia Journey

I discovered Nia by accident, in Asia during a 15 month posting there. I fell in love with it immediately. I could not believe that after 44 years of living, I'd found a FUN way to workout! I could not stop smiling during my first class. I have always loved to dance, and I was the girl dancing in her bedroom to her favourite tunes, but I was always a little bit shy about it. Nia has helped me become so much more comfortable in my own body, to express myself and my individuality, more freely. This has definitely had a ripple effect into the rest of my life and I have so much gratitude for Nia for that reason alone! It is my goal to teach compassionately, from the heart, to hold the space for the Magic to happen so that others may also have their own unique, breakthrough experience.

What is Nia?

Nia is not easy to describe in words. It is best experienced. However, if I had to, I would share that it is a movement practice. Some may call it dance. The movements are a blend of dance, martial and healing arts. It is a balanced movement practice. We listen to our body's needs and move in Our Body's Way. The movements are guided with words. There is no right or wrong way to do it. It can be as much or as little as you desire on any given day. Still intrigued? Try a class and put your own words to it.
